Since moving to Melbourne, I have not been watching movies much. Firstly, the TV is usually dominated by kids’ programs. Even if I successfully veto-ed my way through and turned on my show, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate or listen to anything with the kids running and screaming around. And when I finally do have the chance for a quiet movie time after they’ve gone to bed… well, I’m just too exhausted by then.
Don’t even get me started on movies at cinemas. With the kids (especially Alistair) still stuck to me like a glue and still relying on me to nurse him to sleep at night, the only time we got to go to the movies was last Christmas for Star Wars.
But all that is gonna change. Mmm hmmm yes it is. My plan is to wean him off by the end of the year, so, fingers-crossed, I’m going to get my freedom back!
And so it is perfect timing when I found out that the American Express Openair Cinemas season is starting this month!
Watching movies outdoors, how fun is that!
And, before the latest and greatest feature films light up the big screen, you can fill your tummy with food, drinks and ice cream. To get you in the mood, there’s also an array of alternative entertainment, live music and DJ performances before the movie starts.
They’ve got quite a lot of interesting movies lined up – from new releases like ‘A Star is Born’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’, to festive classics like ‘Love Actually’ and ‘Elf’.
I am going to try to go for ‘A Star is Born’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’!
If you’re an American Express card member, you’ll get to enjoy exclusive benefits, including 15% off selected tickets and access to the American Express Garden to enjoy sunset drinks.
Melbourne is just one stop of the American Express Openair Cinemas tour, and the season is from November 29th to December 21st, 2018.
Tickets start at $14. To get more information, check out the movie listings and to purchase tickets, go to openaircinemas.com.au.
