Ahoy there

I have been extremely preoccupied with a new-found-plus-rekindled hobby lately: painting! Watercolouring, to be exact.

Rekindled because, when I was little, drawing has always been a passion of mine. I was always doodling. On my textbooks, exam question papers, telephone books… everything! If you had asked the 12-year-old me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have said a novelist, an artist, a musician, or all three.

But it’s also new-found because I had never been able to paint. Even though I was fairly good at sketching, painting was a skill that eluded me. But I had always wanted to pick up watercolour. Compared to the other forms of art, watercolour was and still is one medium that really intrigues and captivates me. I love that it can be as abstract as can be, yet also be as detailed and realistic as you want it to be. Also, the fact that watercolour sometimes has a mind of its own! You never truly know what you’ll get! Isn’t that amazing?!

So! A few weeks ago I decided to pick up my brush and make time to paint. YouTube has been my teacher, Instagram and Pinterest my inspiration. I have so much to learn, but I’m really enjoying it so far. If you follow me on Instagram, you would also know that I have self-challenged myself to paint and write every day for the month of December. And it’s been going great! Such a perfect excuse for me to sit down and practice.

Since moving to Melbourne, I have felt God leading me back to my childhood dreams, and it’s really exciting. I’m eager to see where this may lead me. Let’s see if my passion for painting continues next year! 😉

Love,

Natalie
