I have recently decided to start buying physical books again, instead of using my Kindle. There are a few reasons to this. Firstly, I still feel that e-books are somewhat cold. Convenient, yes, but cold and not as personal as I’d like it to be.
Nothing beats the feel of an actual book in your hands, the sound of pages turning, and the smell of the paper…
Also, I love looking at book cover designs. (Yes, I am totally one who judges a book by its cover. Can’t help it. :P) And I love looking at books in my shelves. I love having my house filled with books.
Initially the hubby and I thought it is not practical, having lots of books in the house. When we were preparing to move to Melbourne, it was a pain to get rid of our books at our old place! Hence, I convinced myself (and the hubby) to get the Kindle.
However, seeing e-books on your e-shelf is totally not the same as looking at actual books on actual shelves. And I still have a strong desire within me to fill my house with books. Books for the kids, and books for me, because…
My final and one of the stronger reasons: I want my kids to be able to see me with my nose buried in books, instead of my eyes always glued on gadgets.
On another note, I have given myself a reading challenge, and it is to read at least 12 books this year! I am keeping myself in check through GoodReads, and so far I’m only four books in, but I’m very excited to keep going.
Have you ever given yourself a reading challenge? What books are you currently reading or would recommend to me?
Love,
Natalie
