We made chocolate chip cookies!

Yes guys, I did it. I actually did it. After saying that I will do it since forever, I have finally made it happened. We made chocolate chip cookies!

I’ve always had an interest in learning to bake, but I never really did it because a) I guess the interest wasn’t strong enough; b) I’m really not good in the kitchen.

However, in recent weeks, Amy has been telling her teachers that she really enjoys baking with her mom. Cue: my puzzled looks. We have never baked anything together. Unless you count pretend baking with PlayDoh.

Or, maybe she’s been saying that because she secretly wants to bake stuff with me??

So, finally, last weekend, I decided to make her dream a reality. Let’s do it. Let’s bake some chocolate chip cookies with the kids!!

I went on my trusty Google to look for an easy recipe for yummy and chewy chocolate chip cookies, and I found it right here. The reviews were pretty good, and it looks pretty legit, so we bought the ingredients that same night and we were READY TO GO BABY.

That’s proof that we actually did it. And yes I was wearing Amy’s hair clip.

Amy was really excited and really keen to help out. And every time after we completed one step, she would go “Can I eat it now?” Hahaha.

Alistair was interested for 2 nano seconds. Then, when he realised that his mama was too preoccupied in the kitchen, he set off for his own adventures.

Hmmph.

Anyway, back to the baking. I had to intentionally allow Amy to participate in the entire process, giving her opportunities to pour the ingredients into the mixing bowl, to stir the ingredients together, to help me scoop and place the cookie mixture onto the baking tray.

All throughout I had to reign in my Asian self that was kind of freaking out at the potential mess that could happen. #truestory

In the end, I was very proud of myself for finally baking cookies with Amy. Plus, the chocolate chip cookies turned out to be REALLY NICE!

Here’s the picture of them again:

Oh so good! They were crispy on the outside, and chewy on the inside. Just the way I like it!

I am super delighted, because, to be honest, I was half expecting the cookies to turn out yucks. After all, I had zero experience in baking and I really did not know what I was doing. So, kudos to the recipe really!! I highly recommend it!

And of course, nothing makes me happier than seeing how much the kids enjoyed the cookies.

Now it’s as though the domestic goddess within has been unleashed! I am very excited to look for more (easy) recipes and make more goodies.

If you have any good recipes, please share!! Or, if you’re following this recipe, let me know how it turns out!

Love,

Natalie

        then we can exchange notes.
My favourite one is the cheesecake squares.
note – you may want to reduce the amount of sugar if you find it too sweet after your first try.

there are really a lot of recipes on the website! where do i even begin?? hahaha

By the way, do you know how long our home made cookies / cakes can last before going bad? 1 week? i just realised that we do not have “use-by” dates for our own baked foods. so what if i want to give them to somebody – i’d need to let them know they should finish up the cookies by a certain date right?

for a start, you can try the coffeehouse scone recipe. it is quite easy to make.
Not too sure about the “use by” date but we usually finish eating the baked stuff within a few days.
