As you guys know, Alistair has been a terrible sleeper lately. When he was born, he was an absolute sleep angel. I could put him in his cot, and he would play by himself before falling asleep. Even if I rocked him to sleep, it was easy to put him down. And then he would sleep at least 5 to 6 hours straight at night, before waking up for feeds.
Where did that baby go??
I talked about how difficult it is to make him sleep in my recent TGIF, so I won’t talk about it again. Suffice to say that I have just failed again in my attempt to make him nap. I had rocked him to sleep, but when I tried to put him down, he woke up and cried. And I was like, WHATEVER. If you don’t want to sleep, you don’t have to sleep, Mr Baby.
So I rolled him on his tummy on my bed, and now he’s happily playing. I’ve turned on some baby lullaby music on my laptop, and I’m secretly hoping that he would fall asleep by himself while I blog this. #pleasepleaseplease
Anyway. Since I’m typing this with a baby staring at me, let me share with you some of my favourite baby items at the moment.
+ Bonds Wondersuits. I don’t know if it’s an Aussie thing (well I think Bonds is an Aussie brand?), but a lot of Aussie moms swear by Bonds’ wondersuits and since getting some myself, I too have joined the club. I love the material and the two-way zips. Plus, they have fold over cuffs for the feet, which means I do not have to put on socks on Alistair (which he would always kick off).
+ Beanies. I love beanies, and I love that we are now in a country with a season where we can actually put on beanies! Initially I got a black beanie for Amy and a blue one for Alistair, but we lost them somehow. So when the hubby offered to get new ones for the kiddos, I told him to go wild and get them funky ones. And boy he did. How I wish he got some cute ones for me too! I also found this, this and this online and I think they are so cute!
+ Board books. Amy has been refusing to share her books with Alistair (poor boy!), so I have been on the lookout for good books for him. The tricky part is, I had already bought a lot of my favourite books like The Hungry Caterpillar and Goodnight Moon for Amy. Does that mean I have to buy double?? But then again, I did buy a new Goodnight Gorilla for Alistair, but Amy has called dibs on it.
+ Teether toys. Sophie the Giraffe is my favourite, but I have to confess that it doesn’t seem to be Alistair’s favourite. Unlike Amy who loved it to bits when she was a baby, he’s very cool with it. However, he really likes this Skip Hop monkey toy, especially the mirror bit.
+ Swaddles. Alistair is a swaddle baby. He just sleeps so much better being swaddled, even now! It’s impossible to put him down when he’s asleep unless he is swaddled. So different from Amy, who refused to be swaddled from her second month onwards.
+ Baby carrier. My lifesaver. I used it all the time with Amy when she was under 2 years old, and now I use this to carry Alistair whenever we go out. Sometimes I use it at home too, especially when he’s extra clingy and only wants to sleep while being carried. I use the Ergobaby Performance edition, but I can’t seem to find it online. I was extremely tempted to get this too when Alistair was born, but decided to just stick to my own one.
+ Nursing cover. Extremely important and I don’t ever leave my house without this! With Amy, I tried using the shawl type as well as the apron type, and well, she hated both. Now with Alistair, I use the shawl type, mostly because I lost the apron one haha.
OK I’ll have to stop here because my plan has failed! Alistair is fussing REALLY loudly now and I’m afraid he might wake Amy up… if that happens, I’ll have World War on my hands!
Hope you found this list helpful, and let me know what your favourites are!
